Apparently the Bee Gee's 1977 hit, Stayin' Alive has the perfect rhythm, 103 beats per minute, to keep the proper pace while performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR.
The aptly named song is preferred by some over the other 70's hit that is also has the perfect beat: Queen's, Another One Bites the Dust.
Here are fan vids for the tv show House, using both songs.

dh said he saw this on CNN. How cool is that? Funny, but when I learned CPR they did not tell us about those songs. It might have helped. Then again, what if I forget the words?????? I'd be too tempted to sing and lose my place.
ReplyDeleteI think another one bites the dust is funny (really people in the medical field have a twisted sense of humour)...although I think the other nurses I work with would look at me a bit strange if I sang it while doing compressions.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably forget the words too. I don't think I could bring myself to sing "Another one bites the dust" while trying CPR.
