Poetry Wednesday--Bed in Summer

This is part of the poem, Bed in Summer by Robert Louis Stevenson.  I chose to publish only the first stanza, because it is better fitting to this time of year as the days get shorter.  This poem leaped into my head this morning as I awoke for the day in the pitch dark.

In winter I get up at night
and dress by yellow candle light.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.

  1. And soon the clocks "fall back." When that happens it is actually still dark when I drop the girls off at high school. It seems so wrong. But the rising sun usually greets me on my way back home. Great poem choice for today.

  2. This is one of my favorites and has been so for many years. I was blessed to have parents who read to my sisters and me, and RLS's "A Child's Garden of Verses" was always welcome at reading time. I memorized many of those poems when I was a small child, and I've never forgotten them. Thank you for rekindling some of my fondest memories, Dymphna. May God bless you and Our Lady protect you.
