A Peacock and Doves in a Garden by Eugene Bidau is a gorgeous 19th century painting that oozes sumptuousness and bright, spring beauty. As if the title peacock were not enough, the wisteria drips down the wall in almost overwhelmingly restful color. The daffodils on the bottom right provide a perfectly unmatched natural contrast and draw our eyes to the immaculate white doves flying playfully on the ground.
I thought this picture illustrated perfectly yesterday's O For the Wings of a Dove by Mendelssohn.
Have a restful Tuesday!

Is that like a little pool of water? Can't tell, but I think it is. I love the wysteria -- flowing as the peacock's tail. I imagine that when the peacock open's his tail it has some of those beautiful colors in it.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a beautiful image! (The open peacock's tail.)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for catching the similarity of the peacock's tail and the wisteria. I hadn't thought of that.
i will order you The Raccolta on Friday:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michele!
ReplyDeleteI just love wisteria, peacocks, doves and daffodils. Imagine finding them all in one painting. I wish I had the time to make a book for myself of all the lovely paintings you show us. It feels good to look at them.
ReplyDeleteWhoops, I looked again and the yellow flowers look like iris to me. Nevertheless, I love them, too and have a huge bed on the east side yard. I am addicted to photographing them.
ReplyDeleteIsn't this just a heavenly painting?
