The search for the perfect cup of tea

I've been OCD-ing on tea and tea info these days. I am desperate to find the perfect tasting, easy to find, and fairly inexpensive tea. [Let's add "bagged" (*gasp*) to the list while we are at it!]

Is this impossible? I like to think that I'm not a picky person, but lately, I'm really NOT liking the Lipton decaf that I buy for my mom. Yuk. It's just not cutting it.

I have a fairly large amount of various kinds of tea and tisanes here at home. My current favorite is decaf Earl Grey. I am trying to stay away from large amounts of caffeine but currently craving black tea.

I am also feeling a bit guilty about the amount of artificial sugar I seem to feel is necessary to making any tea taste palatable.

So, does anyone have any suggestions for me as far as an "everyday" decaf black tea?

  1. In my quest for decaf black, I read somewhere that most of the caffeine in tea comes out in the first couple of seconds of brewing. A second steeping would be nearly caffeine free of any tea. I gave up and drink red now, but you might want to look into this.

  3. Ooh dear I hate tea lol..I am a coffee drinker. Tea always tastes like dried grass lol.

    My grandmother would put one tea bag in for every person drinking it and then add an extra teaspoon, 'one for the pot'. She would then cover it with a tea cosy let it 'rest' for a few mins and pour...But I forget what brand she drank *scratches head*.

  4. If you want a good sweetener, try Xylitol; it's a natural, low glycemic sugar withone third the calories of sugar. Another option is Agave, made from the agave cactus. Both of these taste great- no different from sugar or honey, and are available at most health food stores.
