St. Gemma is the patron saint of pharmacists, those with back pain, migraine and head ache sufferers, those suffering from temptations and those seeking purity of heart. Her spirituality was mystical and deep. She was deeply devoted to Jesus' Passion and to the Sacred Heart and the Passionists consider her one of their own.

If all the world had only a small portion of the love that Gemma bore for Christ, we would all not only be at peace with each other but willing to die for the least of our brothers and sisters.

Triduum in Honor of St. Gemma to Obtain a Special Grace

DAY 2

Preface: Oh most Divine Lord, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy Infinite Majesty, and we adore Thee and dedicate to Thy glory the devout prayers which we now present to Thee, as an act of devotion to your servant, St Gemma Galgani, whose intercession we are now imploring.

O worthy Spouse of the Lamb of God and faithful virgin St Gemma, you preserved the innocence and splendor of virginity, giving to the world a bright example of purity and the most exalted virtues, look down with pity from thy high place in heaven upon us who confide in thee, as we implore thee for the favor we so ardently desire (mention request)

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, St. Gemma, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.

O God, Who fashioned thy servant St Gemma, into a likeness of Thy Crucified Son, grant us through her intercession, the favor that we humbly request, and through the Passion Death and Resurrection of Thy Son, may we be untied with You for all eternity. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Triduum in Honor of St. Gemma to Obtain a Special Grace

I have been feeling the need to lean on the holy ones in heaven today.

I just discovered that tomorrow (Thursday) starts the Triduum in Honor of Saint Gemma Galgani. The triduum begins on May 14 and ends on her Passionist feast day, May 16. St. Gemma had a great desire to become a Passionist nun, but poor health prevented it. Now, the Passionists consider her a lay Passionist and celebrate her feast in their order on May 16th.

I will publish the prayers for each day of the triduum.

Here is Day 1 of the triduum in honor of St. Gemma

DAY 1

Preface: Oh most Divine Lord, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy Infinite Majesty, and we adore Thee and dedicate to Thy glory the devout prayers which we now present to Thee, as an act of devotion to your servant, St Gemma Galgani, whose intercession we are now imploring.

Most compassionate virgin, St. Gemma, during thy short life on earth, you gave a most beautiful example of angelic innocence and seraphic love and was found worthy to bear in thy flesh the marks of our Lord's Passion. Have pity on us who are so much in need of God's Mercy, and obtain for us through thy merits and intercession, the special favor which we now fervently implore (mention request)

Saint Gemma

I wanted to highlight a new blog about St. Gemma Galgani. She was an early 20th century mystic who had the stigmata, endured attacks by the devil, and experienced visits from her guardian angel.

Stop by the St. Gemma Galgani blog and learn more about her.

By the way, this photo of Saint Gemma (from that blog) is completely new to me and really seems to illustrate the closeness with Jesus and inner peace that Gemma experienced.

So far, statues and illustrations of her don't come close to showing her real spiritual power.

Prayer for Forgiveness of Sins

I came across this beautiful Prayer for Forgiveness of Sins by Saint Gemma Galgani last night on a holy card, and thought I would post it here.

My Jesus, I place all my sins before you. In my estimation they do not deserve pardon, but I ask you...to close your eyes to my want of merit and open them to your infinite merit. Since you willed to die for my sins, grant me forgiveness for all of them. Thus, I may no longer feel the burden of my sins, a burden that oppresses me beyond measure.

Assist me, dear Jesus, for I desire to become good no matter what the cost. Take away, destroy, and utterly root out whatever you find in me that is contrary to your holy will. At the same time, dear Jesus, illumine me so that I may walk in your holy light.

Through the intercession of the then, Blessed Margaret Mary Alacoque, she was cured of a near paralyzing back condition.

She dearly wanted to be a sister, but was continually rejected due to her ill health. Although she never entered the convent, she is considered today to be a Passionist saint.

Below is a very short film about part of her life.
