As it is customary in many U.S. parishes to have First Holy Communion in May, let us say a special prayer for all those who will be making their First Holy Communion this month.
Eternal Father, I offer you the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity or Our Lord Jesus Christ in atonement for my sins and the sins of the whole world;
That's a beatiful picture. I remember my First Holy Communion and it was the beginning of an adventure with God!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most beautiful pictures that I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing it and for encouraging us to pray. I said that prayer.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless!
I still have my First Communion prayerbook. A little worse for the wear.
ReplyDeleteLooking at that picture, I remembered the date of my First Communion: May 8th, 1948. It startled me, since my daughter died 3 years ago...on May 8th.
I was raised in an orphanage and believe me, your First Communion was a Big Deal. After your First Confession, you got to spend the afternoon on the nun's porch, safe from the sinful rest of the group. And breakfast, after a long service, was quite special.
Of all the initiation of the sacraments, the invitation to one's first Eucharist remains the most meaningful.
Wow, Dymphna, what a story!! My first communion was very special to me too. I remember the child-like faith I had. It really helped me later in life to recall that and to try to get back in touch with that simple union with God.
