I've just discovered that Stephanie Cole, one of my favorite Britcom actresses, also suffers from depression. In an article for
Mindout for Mental Health she tells of her life long struggle with depression, anxiety and agoraphobia, beginning at age 12. She talks about a lack of understanding of mental illnesses that still persists today.
I still find it extraordinary that people are ready and willing to help with physical disease but not with mental disease when in fact a broken mind is far worse than a broken arm.
She is perhaps best known in the U.S. for her role as Diana Trent in the BBC comedy,
Waiting for God.
I don't think I have heard of this actress but do think that there is a lack of understanding in regards to mental illness, I don't understand it totally myself and think it should be more widely talked about and yeah people should be more willing to help with it too.
ReplyDeleteI shall check her out thanks :)
Another thing I didn't know about her is that she is a lot younger than the character she plays, apparently. Waiting for God takes place in a "retirement community" and Cole was only 49 when she first took the role.
