Soap Operas
Yes, I had a stage during my early teens when I watched soap operas. Now, though, I can't stand to be in the same room when a soap opera is on tv. Besides having totally unbelievable storylines, and too many people trying too hard to be "beautiful", I can't abide by the constant shrill tone that eminates from them. Soap operas are "all crisis, all the time." I've had too many years of therapy to purposly subject myself to that. I can't imagine why anyone would want to.

I hate soap operas but was forced to watch a Spanish one today called "Mujer de Madera", which translates to "The Wooden Woman". It was just as bad as regularly soap operas, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThe few times I have access to cable TV, I've surfed through some Spanish soap operas. I don't know any Spanish, so I can't tell what is going on, but you can tell that it is a soap opera nevertheless!
ReplyDeleteHere Here! You got that right!
ReplyDeleteI think we've all had that stage in our life when we were hooked to soaps. I guess when the soul grows and matures, it loses interest in banal things.
ReplyDeleteWhat's worse is that we now have two extremes of TV melodrama:soaps and reality TV.
I hate reality tv, although I admit I don't watch it much. I think its just taking advantage of people's humanity and emotions for other people's fun. Kind of like the ancient Romans.
ReplyDeleteQuestion on that christian page : is that suitable for a christian couple (my wife an I) to own and enjoy very much the whole collection of Sex and the City show.
ReplyDeleteI think we like the fact it is well written and well shot, as we hardly identify to the four heroins (Charlotte, a bit maybe).
Would you even call it a soap opera ?
Good question, Renaud! I think some of those well written shows are kind of "cross over" shows. I admit to watching Ballykissangel which is an Irish show. My ds tells me, "Mom, that's a soap opera!" I tell him, "But its Irish!" ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't stand soap operas too, when I was about 14 and was on school vacation I got into days of our lives for one week and thought, oh my I can't stand this, the storyline was so pathetic, here in australia we call it "Days of our drearies" hehehee.
ReplyDeleteOne other thing I could not stand was "melrose place" everyone was mean to each other!
I've noticed that too--everyone in soap operas is so cruel and shrill.
ReplyDeleteI confess, Days of Our Lives was the one I used to watch too!
