Stop Judicial Tyranny!

The recent Supreme Court decisions continue to worry me, especially in light of the decision in Florida to kill Terri Schindler-Schiavo. The ability of the government to take away privately owned property from one person, purely for economic gain of another doesn't seem like something that the courts should be left to decide. The court system in this country seems increasingly unstoppable and that is not what the founding fathers had in mind when they wrote the Constitution.

The reason our government works is because each branch works under a system of checks and balances. Some of us remember this working with painful clarity during Watergate. When one branch goes too far in its quest for power, there are ways to stop it. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore with the judicial branch of our government and that is frightening.

To voice your opposition to judicial tyranny, you can go to The Empire Journal website and purchase a black magnet ribbon with yellow lettering saying, "Stop Judicial Tyranny!" You may also buy a t-shirt or tie picturing the black ribbon.

  1. Amen! We are losing our right to life: see Roe and Schiavo. We are losing our rights to private property: See New London.

We need to stand up and support qualified conservative jurists when they are put through the fire during confirmation hearings.

I support the idea that if Moveon.org or People for the American Way don't like a candidate, that is a sign that said candidate is probably a decent selection.

It would be terrible if Bush compromised and ended up picking another wishy-washy liberal who will further erode our liberties.

    Deliberate Chaos

  2. For the most part, the Justices of the Supreme Court agree with Bush. Even if they didn't, there's a Republican majority in both the House and the Senate.

Your wish for the Judicial branch to be Conservative in addition to both the Executive and Legislative branches is not a wish for checks and balances, but a wish for a tyranny that believes the same way as yourself. I'm sure if there were both a Democractic congress and president you'd be praying that the president chose a compromise Justice.

  3. Right now we have a Republican Executive branch and a Republican dominated Legislative branch. Your wish for a Republican dominated Judicial branch would result not in checks and balances, but in a tyranny that you agree with.

I'm sure that if we had a Democrat for president and a Democratic congress, you would be praying for a single Republican to be added to the Supreme Court, not chastising the president for compromising.

  4. Oops! My bad, I thought blogger lost the first one so I rewrote it, and they're essentially the same thing. I really didn't mean to spam or flame you there!

  5. My thoughts about checks and balances reflect the possibility that the judicial decisions sometimes go against what the majority of people within their jurisdiction would have wanted, had they the opportunity to vote for it.

It seems to me that we are loosing our checks and balances when it comes to the judicial system.
